Chapter Zero Kazakhstan launches

The Climate Governance Initiative is delighted to announce the launch of its 31st Chapter, Chapter Zero Kazakhstan, which will spearhead corporate climate leadership in Kazakhstan

The launch event was held today in Astana, the nation’s capital, and was attended by prominent politicians including the Minister of Education, the Minister of Energy and the Vice-Minister of Ecology.

The launch of Chapter Zero Kazakhstan sees the Climate Governance Initiative’s global network grow to 31 Chapters, representing 71 countries and with a collective membership of over 100,000 board directors.

Chapter Zero Kazakhstan will support and empower the supervisory and management boards of Kazakhstani companies to take action on climate change. The Chapter will collaborate with a range of partners, including the Astana International Financial Centre, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, McKinsey, KPMG, and Nazarbayev University.

The Chapter’s launch event in Astana brought together a diverse range of business leaders and other stakeholders to discuss the crucial role of corporate governance in tackling climate change.

Karlygash Imanbayeva, the founder of Chapter Zero Kazakhstan, said:

“In recent years, climate change has posed an increasing risk not only to humanity, but to the entire planet and the global economy. Active and ambitious engagement of industry, finance, and business in mitigating and adapting to climate change is crucial. That is why we have launched Chapter Zero Kazakhstan, a groundbreaking step towards achieving this goal in our country.”

Julie Baddeley, Chair of the Climate Governance Initiative’s Governing Board, who spoke at the Chapter’s launch event, said:

“We are delighted to welcome Chapter Zero Kazakhstan as the 31st Chapter in our growing global network, and the second in Central Asia. We look forward to working with Chapter Zero Kazakhstan as they build and empower a network of board directors in Kazakhstan that will place climate change firmly at the centre of the corporate agenda.”

Chapter Zero Kazakhstan will run live and online events and workshops for board directors, record podcasts, promote the sharing of knowledge and best practice, and invite its members to events and workshops organised by the global network.

Membership of Chapter Zero Kazakhstan is free for individuals and is open to Chairs, CEOs, members of supervisory and management boards, sustainability and climate change experts, as well as other interested parties.
