Monday 23 September 2024

The Climate Governance Initiative has today launched a new programme designed to drive board director engagement with climate action by harnessing the power of personal networks, at an event at Climate Week NYC.

The Climate Governance Initiative Ambassadors appointed to the programme will use their leadership influence to empower and encourage other independent and non-executive directors in their networks to build the knowledge and confidence they need to take action on climate.

By increasing the number of board directors taking steps to align their company’s strategy with the goals of the Paris Agreement and build resilience against the risks associated with climate change, the programme will drive systemic change in businesses globally which will accelerate the net zero transition.

Alexandra Bolton OBE, Director of the Climate Governance Initiative, said:

“Peer-to-peer engagement is a crucial lever to accelerate climate action in boardrooms, and so we are delighted to be launching the Climate Governance Initiative Ambassadors programme at Climate Week NYC.

“Our Ambassadors are proactive and committed champions of climate governance who will drive the Initiative’s cause within their wider networks. I look forward to seeing what this programme will achieve.”

Dina Mex, board director and Climate Governance Initiative Ambassador, said:

“I believe in the power of informed leadership to drive meaningful climate action. As an ambassador, I aim to influence business leaders to integrate sustainability into their strategies, recognizing that climate change is a tremendous opportunity to create more profitable and responsible businesses. Through CGI’s global network, we are driving systemic change, empowering board directors to lead the transition towards the businesses of the future.”

Tarcila Ursini, board director and Climate Governance Initiative Ambassador, said:

“Addressing the climate crisis is not only a moral imperative but also a critical governance issue. Boards must lead by example, integrating climate action into their core strategies to drive meaningful transformation. This global initiative, of the highest level, tackles the greatest challenge of our generation, empowering leaders to take that vital step.”
