The Climate Governance Initiative has launched a global hub focused on building board director climate capacity in financial and insurance sectors with three online events delivered in collaboration with McKinsey.
The Financial Sector Hub was developed to foster collaboration between the Climate Governance Initiative’s Chapter network and equip non-executive and independent directors of financial institutions with the necessary sector-specific knowledge to drive meaningful discussions on climate issues in the boardroom and drive change.
Through online and in-person events, the Climate Governance Initiative Financial Sector Hub provides support, guidance and exchange opportunities to directors facing the specific and complex requirements of the financial sector related to climate change.
The financial sector has specific and complex requirements creating both risks and opportunities that can have an outsized influence on how the real economy can and will face-up to the challenge of the climate transition. It’s therefore no surprise that the Taskforce on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) has prioritised the financial sector alongside the energy sector in its effort to drive change.
Alongside its public launch, the Financial Sector Hub has announced a three-part webinar series, delivered in collaboration with McKinsey, to explore the roles board directors of financial institutions must play to deliver a greener economy.

The Climate Governance Initiative is driven by communities of non-executive directors known as Chapters, with a collective network of more than 100,000 individuals. These individuals can influence trillions of dollars of capital and the emissions of thousands of companies through the boards on which they serve.
The Climate Governance Initiative provides a platform for knowledge and experience exchange for non-executive directors at each stage of their climate journey. Guided by the World Economic Forum’s Principles for Effective Climate Governance, the Initiative’s mission is to empower non-executive directors as they accelerate their company’s journey to close the gap between ambition and action, manage transition risks and identify the opportunities for their business.
